Greyhounds Wrap Up The Season with Banquet
Congratulations Greyhounds on another winning season! A good time was had by all at the annual end-of-season banquet! Kudos to the following:
Outstanding Forward - Eddie Mienie
Outstanding Back - Joe McGrath
Outstanding Rookie - Britt Bowen
Most Improved - Sam Jones
Most Valuable Player - Greg Veal
Although we posted our 4th winning season, this one was difficult. The Greyhounds fielded a tough, competitive team in 2008 that made up in heart and speed for what they lacked in size and experience. Unfortunately, we never really got the chance to prove just how good we really were. We were within one score of tying or beating BOTH 2008 champions (Lassiter & Walton). When we finally hit our stride with a 2-game winning streak, we were then faced with 2 forfeits and a bye week. By the time we got to the playoffs it had been a whole month since we played a real game. That, combined with the fact that we were without 7 starters left us powerless against state runner-up Milton in the quarters.
What could have been: If only a couple of missed kicks had been good against Lassiter? if the lights hadn't gone out against Walton? If Columbus or Northside had actually shown up for their games? if we hadn't lost several key players throughout the season for a variety of uncontrollable reasons? If we had actually gotten the seeding in the playoffs that we earned? Who knows? The important thing is that The Greyhounds are WINNERS. A talented, experienced group will return in 2009 and once again, the championship will be within our grasp!
